My collection of art and poetry, Color Recuerdo, was published in 2024. Diverse memorabilia from friends and family find their way to me; my collaborators and their ephemera become my process—we create together for a moment! These disparate objects, like we humans, combine in surprising and beautiful ways. My visual art influences my poetry; both creative forms reflect the themes of friendship, memory, and the unexpected. I pay homage to family, women, diverse cultures, and historical moments—I send a message of hope.
My years in México, Spain and Uruguay inspire bilingual poetry, this is a world of butterflies, Cuban rhythms, family, friends, forgotten flowers. Paintings depict landscapes and whimsical imaginings; women from around the globe are painted with crowns, honored as queens. Sometimes my recuerdos are colored in deep tones of sorrow and love; other times they pay homage to the present, face our challenges and injustice, pray for a better future.
